Photo of the Day: A Typical Rest-stop

Rest-stop/Hotel on Madeenah Road, Saudi Arabia

lil hotel and rest-stop on Madeenah Road, Saudi Arabia

Unfortunately most – if not all – the rest stops are…well…filthy (and I’m being nice here). The rest-stops that provide just mere toilets and a wudhu station are far worse. I’ve used one in the past and will never do so again, bi idhnillaah. What makes it so bad is that these facilities have janitors on duty.

Anyway…

The smiles on the faces of the elderly pilgrims who strove and prayed long and hard to make it here, along with the visible anxiousness of the younger folks will cause you to forget about the icky yucky for a moment and you’ll find yourself smiling and making du’aa for them, asking Allaah to accept their worship. It’s amazing how the atmosphere of such a hairy-looking place can make you feel genuinely and spiritually content.

  1. lol… mashaAllah what memories you bring back! its as if the rest stops are staying back in time while mashaAllah makkah and madeenah look very different to when i last saw them in 2004! i also refused to use them…alhamdlillah alaa kulli haal!

  2. assalaamualykum
that looks like one of the rest-stops we used in 2004! or do they all look the same? mashaAllah it is a lovely blog

~ Aabida, yes Makkah and Madeenah are improving, Tabaarakallaah. Unfortunately the rest-stops ARE stuck in the past. I did not use the one in the photo, I used another further down the road…it was an absolute nightmare. Even the wudhu station was filled with slimy trash. Sigh.

~ Ayesha, yes most of them look like the one in the photo. Some of them are a wee bit better, but not by much. Thanks for your comment!

  4. theres a great stop on the way to madina.it is clean and airy.it has a taza chicken outlet as well.chek it out.
